Subject: For better management of Lyme disease
Madam Minister of State,
The association works to France Lyme prevention of tick-borne diseases and helps the sick.
With this letter, we wish to warn you about the problems of diagnosis and treatment of
Lyme disease, primary disease caused by ticks in France . In fact, the only available diagnostic tests
are unreliable and the treatment recommended by official agencies is often insufficient.
1. Presentation of Lyme disease
Lyme disease also called Lyme borreliosis, is a bacterial infection transmitted by ticks.
The bacteria responsible for this disease is called Borrelia and contains numerous species: Borrelia
burgdorferi, Borrelia azfelii, Borrelia garinii, etc..
The disease progresses in three stages:
1. at the primary stage, a large fatigue, flu-like symptoms with fever and / or rash
migrant (red spot at the point of the tick bite) may be early signs of the disease;
2. secondary stage, if the disease has not been treated or inadequately treated, the bacteria invade
gradually the whole body and can attack the joints (arthritis, arthralgia), the
nerves (neuralgia, paralysis), brain (cognitive impairment), the heart (cardites), etc.. ;
3. the tertiary stage, the symptoms worsen and may mimic rheumatoid arthritis, multiple
plaques, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, heart diverse, etc..
Due to the many varied symptoms, Lyme disease is often called by the experts
"Great imitator" or "disease chameleon."
